The TV as permanent tenant: a black rectangle, always on duty even when off, inviting thoughtless watching. The fear is that removing it means losing convenience ~ and the wish underneath is real:
a wall that breathes, and evenings that return.
What you lose is a TV. What you gain is a cinema. The television is furniture ~ a rectangle permanently on duty, watching you back. A projector reverses the contract: light is summoned, light dissolves, and between viewings the wall is only a wall. The screen becomes an event, not an object. Accept this, and you are no longer shopping for a smaller television.
You are choosing how much light you can hold.
The relic is the irreducible: three metres, fixed, so long~throw only. Licensed Google TV built in ~ Netflix native, no dangling dongle. A machine that squares itself: autofocus, auto~keystone, screen~fit. And one honest measure above all ~ brightness counted only in ANSI or ISO lumens. Everything else is ornament.
A projector holding these is already its own root.
The worthiness line sits near four hundred euros. Below it, Amazon offers counterfeit thrones: boxes claiming eight thousand lumens that measure three hundred, a slider posing as calibration, an "OS" that is neither. A counterfeit cinema at takeaway prices. The ritual demands courage: claim the line.
Under it, you are not buying a projector ~ you are buying a lottery ticket printed with lies.
The enemy is not the cheap projector. The enemy is the television itself: a black hole in the interior, inviting thoughtless watching. It robs music, deep conversation, the look out the window, the reason to leave the house. The junk box is merely its bargain~bin cousin.
To anoint is to negate: the television must die so the room can live.
The cinema has a ticket price. ~€260 ~ the Wanbo Vali 1 Pro: 900 ANSI lumens, Google TV 14. ~€450 ~ the MoGo 3 Pro: XGIMI refinement, an evening animal. ~€1,600 ~ the Horizon Ultra: 4K, Dolby Vision, daylight. Each step up buys not luxury but daylight ~ the currency a true TV replacement must spend.
Declare it without apology.
The covenant is automatic: autofocus, auto~keystone, screen~fit. Place it, press power, walk away while it calibrates itself. One honest compromise: keystone is digital, a small pixel tax at odd angles ~ the Horizon Ultra forgives best, with glass that moves instead. The convenience the fear said projectors lack arrives precisely by letting go.
Surrender, and the ritual takes three seconds.
The first night: a hundred~inch image blooming across a bare wall, the fan quieter than a fridge, sound already inside ~ no soundbar demanded on night one. At three metres, the Horizon throws 110 inches of native 4K; the others throw the same hundred inches of 1080p, indistinguishable to eyes seated three metres away. Then the light dissolves.
That dissolve is the point.
The flame is brightness, and the field must never fall. The Horizon Ultra’s 2,300 ISO lumens hold the image against curtains half~drawn ~ afternoons watchable, direct sun still undefeated. The Vali’s 900 ANSI is the honest middle. The MoGo’s 450 ISO a beast for twilight.
Protect the flame, and you will never once long for the executed television.
Which guests inherits the cinema? The EU tourist, the Afrikaans visting parents, the traveling technophobe ~ the the law most buyers skip and regret. All three candidates pass the grandmother test: Google TV greets like a Sony or Samsung television, one power press, no input~switching liturgy, no manual consulted. A cinema no one needs to understand.
Love is a remote that needs no explanation. Only touch.
Alleen aanraking.
What the room receives back: real estate, absence, a wall allowed to be a wall ~ art where the black rectangle squatted. Given without control, no return demanded. Tthe giving returns to where the fear was named. Accept the gift without shame: you are allowed to want a room that breathes.
The absence is the artifact.
Name your true budget before the algorithm names it. €260 is honest? Take the Vali proudly. €450 and dark evenings? The MoGo forgives much. Daylight matters? Ask boldly for the Horizon. Refuse the junk shelf’s flattery and the price tag’s shame. Then the final fold: the reclaimed evenings spent on music, conversation, the window, the city. Eleven folds to one.
Give. Ask. Become.
Is €260 eerlijk? Neem met trots de Vali. €450 en donkere avonden? De MoGo vergeeft veel. Telt daglicht?
Give. Ask. Become.
I am a Photography Artist and Neuro~Mythologist. I create images, ideas and cultural frameworks that explore how human beings become who they are ~ and who they might still become.
I grew up in a rural Dutch village. I know what it means to carry a vision before there is evidence for it, support around it or language capable of explaining it. Photography became my first language: a way of creating what has not yet happened and giving form to what people feel but cannot yet name.
I now also wield the word and the spreadsheet. Because seeing is not enough. For a vision to survive, it must be named. And last but not least, pointed out.
En last but not least: aangewezen.
I wrote the 11 Laws of Mythmaking because myth is not fantasy. It is the invisible architecture through which we understand ourselves, organise society and decide which futures feel possible. I wanted to understand that force ~ and make it conscious.
The New Renaissance is my life’s work: a meeting place for art, technology, science, economics, health, law and mythology, built around the dignity and abundance of the human being.
The New Renaissance is mijn levenswerk: een ontmoetingsplek voor kunst, technologie, wetenschap, economie, gezondheid, recht en mythologie, gebouwd rond de waardigheid en abundance van de mens.
My work begins with attention. It grows through conversation. It becomes real through people who recognise something of themselves within it ~ and choose to build.
I do not claim to possess the answers.
And I am willing to ask all the questions.
Welcome to the New Renaissance.
Welcome to the New Renaissance.
Give. Ask. Become.
